The government has started taking homework before entering the field of journalism. Speaking at a program organized by the Ministry of Communications on Friday, Minister for Information and Communication Technology Parbat Gurung informed that the constitution ordering procedure of the mass media academy announced in the budget for the fiscal year 2078/79 BS has been prepared. He said that the procedure has been sent to the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Finance.
Minister Gurung informed that a task force has also been formed for the implementation of the foundation. A five-member task force has been formed under the leadership of the Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. According to Minister Gurung, the ministry has formed a working procedure and task force at a fast pace after the issue of establishing a mass media academy came up from the budget speech.
He said that to become a government employee, one has to undergo training even after passing the civil service and after joining the Nepal Army and police, adding that the mass media academy is a game changer for the journalists as they are more accountable.
He said that the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) would take suggestions from the stakeholders on how to move the academy forward. He also informed that the academy would be set up as an autonomous development committee from July 20.
Stating that he knew that there were problems in the mass media sector even before he became a minister, he mentioned that after becoming a minister, he has been working with the Federation of Nepali Journalists and media house operators. Minister Gurung also claimed that the main opposition party did not oppose the budget brought by the government. Minister Gurung said that even though the opposition party issued a statement against the budget, it did not find the subject of protest.
Similarly, the Federation of Nepali Journalists also said that it was a pleasant thing to welcome the budget. Stating that the working committee was won by the opposition party and not the ruling party in the federation, he said that it was an achievement for the government to support the federation as it has always expressed dissatisfaction with the budget.
