CPN-UML leader Yogesh Bhattarai has expressed dissatisfaction over the renaming process of Suketar Airport in Taplejung.
Bhattarai expressed dissatisfaction over the naming process after the government announced to rename Suketar Airport as Rabindra Adhikari Airport through the budget of the fiscal year 2078/79 BS.
Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel said that Suketar Airport has been renamed as Rabindra Adhikari and Chuhandanda Airport in Tehrathum as Ang Chiring Sherpa.
Leader Bhattarai has expressed the view that before changing the identity of a place known by any name or feature, its need, justification, relevance and outcome should be broadly discussed and agreed upon at the citizen level including local stakeholders and people’s representatives.
He wrote on social media about Suketar Airport, “Good deeds can only be achieved with good intentions and the right process. Otherwise, there will be conflicts, divisions and unnecessary tensions. ‘
Seven people, including the then Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari, were killed when an Air Dynasty helicopter crashed in Sisnevir, Fungling Municipality-10, Taplejung on March 3, 2008.
